Four potential candidates weigh Weller challenge

There are now four candidates vying for the 11th District congressional seat now held by U.S. Rep. Jerry Weller, R-Morris.

So far, one Republican, two Democrats, and a Green Party Candidate have announced their intentions to run for the U.S. House of Representatives in 2008.

- Jason King, 35, is an Analyst Programmer from Normal. He and his wife Margie have one son, David Fairbanks, a student at IWU, Bloomington. King, a Republican, is a veteran, having served in the U.S. Army, and National Guard. He volunteers as a Project Director for the McLean County Chapter of Habitat for Humanity.

— Jason Wallace, 25, a senior Politics and Government major at ISU and veteran of the Iraq war is challenging Weller as a member of the Green Party. Additional information about him is available at: <http://www.electwallace.us/>

— Jerry Weber, 56, a Democrat from Bourbonnais who serves as the president of Kankakee Community College is planning to run for the 11th District U.S. House seat now held by Weller. Weber is formerly the president at Heartland Community College in Bloomington. Additional information is soon to be available at his website at: <http://weberforcongress.com/>

— Robert Gorman, 63, of Frankfort, is also running as a Democrat, though he was affiliated with the Republican party more than 20 years ago. He calls himself financially conservative, but with liberal tendencies on the social front. Gorman is the president of the Gorman Group, a real estate appraisal firm specializing in unusual properties. He is married with two grown children.

Petitions must be filed between Monday, Oct. 29 and Monday, Nov. 5, 2007. The primary election will be held Feb. 5, 2008. The general election will be held Nov. 4, 2008.
