Weller aide arrested

Weller aide clashes with reporter

by Carol Henrichs

When U.S. Rep. Jerry Weller was asked to answer charges of ethical violations, he was non-commital, ignoring them as if they didn’t exist. But, one of his aids was clearly on the offense.

An altercation with longtime political reporter Mike Flannery of CBS news, resulted in an arrest Friday.

Flannery reported on the 10 p.m. news and showed video tape of the event where he and Carlos Hernandez-Gomez from CLTV were shoved in a stairwell while following Weller after his official retirement announcement.

Flannery was shoved down the stairs and into Weller spokeswoman Debbie Militello who also fell. She was helped up and walked away with Weller, who seemingly ignored the entire incident. The two got into her SUV and drove away.

Flannery called John Dusik, an aid to Weller, his "big, beefy taxpaid legislative assistant," who used his elbows to try to separate Weller from questioners who were just doing their job.

Flannery is furious at the violent treatment he experienced by what he called Weller’s goon.

According to reports, Dusik was later arrested for the incident. Meanwhile, Flannery is considering filing charges against him.
