Walsh to join Halvorson at home in Crete
Will County Executive Larry Walsh will be the keynote speaker at the next meeting of the Crete Township Democrats.
Walsh will discuss issues that affect Will County government, such as Gov. Rod Blagojevich’s veto of the county’s effort to raise the gas tax. Walsh was behind the measure because of the safeguard that it wouldn’t take effect without approval of the voters.
Walsh will explain that with Will County roads in crisis, a gas tax would go a long way toward helping to raise funds needed for both deteriorating infrastructure caused by trucks generated by the intermodal facility located in Elwood and proposed at Crete and to meet the demands of future growth.
Senate Majority Leader Debbie Halvorson, who has recently announced her candidacy for the U.S. Congress is also expected to attend.
Halvorson’s political career began in Crete Township where she was intoduced into politics as Crete Township Clerk. She then became a State Senator defeating the late Senator Aldo DeAngelis in 1996. Finally, she became the first female to serve in a leadership role in Springfield as Senator Majority Leader.
No doubt, as Halvorson travels the many miles throughout the 11th District that reaches all the way from Bloomington on the south and Ottawa and Bureau counties on the west, it is at home in Crete where she will feel most at home.
The meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, October 18, at the Crete Town Hall at 1367 Wood Street, in Crete.
